Make a Facebook Page, Event, or Group Badge

PageBadge

PageBadge is just a side pet project that we built over a weekend while sitting at the Yaletown’s Blenz coffee. We needed a way to promote our facebook pages and events and couldn’t imagine that nobody ever thought of building badge makers for facebook pages, events, or groups. So here it is Ladies and Gentlemen you can try the application here

I must say that this project is mostly the work of genius from my business partner and team mate Arash Sanieyan from PeerGlobe Technology and it is developed using Ruby on Rails. We think the most useful web apps are the ones we develop to solve one of our own problems.

I guess after building this pet project, we both had enough of Facebook App development. For some reason developing applications for the facebook isn’t as exciting as 6 month ago, perhaps because many of our marketer friends successfully managed to suck the fun out of this popular social network website.

Facebook PageBadge

When you go to the PageBadge, you can select one of the 3 options: Page, Groups, and Events.

Facebook PageBadge

Let’s say you click on a Page, and the app loads a list of images for you, each representing one of the pages that you have joined as a fan. Once you click on an icon, the app creates a nice badge for you and generates the HTML code which you can copy-paste and use on your website.

Facebook PageBadge

There is a checkbox for adding few pixels of padding to the badge. This is useful for those images which have been cropped tightly.

Facebook PageBadge

And here is an example of a Facebook Event badge, notice how each padge comes with a tiny icon on the top left, representing to which category (page, group, or event) this badge belong to.

This application is still in a Beta stage, and the last time that we’ve checked about 81 people are using it. We do appreciate any feedbacks, suggestions, or bug reports from you. You can either post them here or on the Application page on the Facebook.

  • thanks, im using this on http://www.islatur.com, but i didn’t get the Add Padding option, go figure.

  • I know, that was the old implementation, the new one doesn’t include padding.

  • Thank you for this. I really appreciate it.

  • I love the idea and really want to use it for my facebook group. However, whether I click on page, group or event it only brings up my events. So it brings up the same logos for all 3. Any ideas how I can get round this?

  • Aaaah it’s because I was in IE not firefox, all sorted now, great work!

  • amazing! thanks so much!

  • Thanks a bunch for this easy app for a FB newbie! Worked great! Fast too!

  • Any chance this app, or another will allow us to publish a similar badge that includes the page’s “status update”?

  • Hi, I tried to use this application in facebook, but when I put in the group name to “search”, nothing happens, the little round ticker just keeps going round and round……any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • Hi Afshan,

No Padgebadge only works with Firefox, but the created badges are viewable in all browsers.

  • Hello,
I used your app for my personal website and love it.

Now I have volunteered with a non-profit and created their website. They do not like the “Bridge of Hope” logo under “Facebook” on the badge.

Is there a way to remove our logo in the badge? I thought I could get into Facebook and just remove the uploaded logo from our group page. But, Facebook substituted in a “?” symbol.

Any suggestions you have, I would be most grateful.
    Thank you. Dale…

  • Hi…thank you for the app, it was easy to use. Forgive my stupidity but could you please tell me where I paste the information for my badge on a page? I created the badge but now don’t know where to put it…

  • OK I am dying to get this to work, but I must be an idiot of sorts. I want to use this as an email footer, but can’t get it to read the icon and not the string of code… can someone help me?
