We are at the Vancouver Joomla Day

We have around 120+ people in the room which is more than the number of people who attended the Tazzu WordPress Camp. Who thought that Joomla! is not as well known as Drupal or WordPress in Vancouver? We proved them all wrong!

More updates on the Vancouver Joomla Day

As you might have read the announcement on the rmd Studio website, we are organizing the Vancouver Joomla Day on the June 12th 2008 with the help of other associates in our circle such as Wendy Robinson, Tazzu (Vancouver’s Business & Technology) Community, PeerGlobe Technology, and JenTekk Web Solutions.

We have made some changes to the event’s schedule, because we though the original plan was a little too developers focused and we didn’t want to rule out the non-developer Joomla enthusiasts, Marketers, and Social Media consultants from attending this community driven event.

Have you done any projects in Joomla? then put it on the spotlight

In the new schedule we have considered 6 project spotlight time slots, each 15 minutes long for those who have been involed with a Joomla related project and would like to share some insights with the rest of community members. If you have developed  any projects in Joomla you might be interested to do a small presentation on the Joomla Day. For more information please read this post on the Tazzu blog

More Time to share and cross pollinate ideas

There is a one hour lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 PM where we get to socialize a bit

From 4:40 to 5:30 there will be more time for us to spend some time sharing ideas and asking questions. This is your opportunity to meet some of the Joomla Core developers and many other people who are involved in this great project in person.

We are looking forward to seeing you there. If you haven’t purchased your tickets, you can do it here:

We have also listed the Vancouver Joomla Day event on the facebook. If you would like to know who else is attending or help us spread the word, Please RSVP here:

How did the first Vancouver Joomla Demo Camp go?

I was supposed to blog about this event last week around Wednesday or Tuesday, but I simply didn’t get the time. We were so busy working on the client projects, that it was difficult to allocate free blogging time.

We had around 20 people attending this event at the Network Hub last Tuesday. For this session we managed to construct a simple website for an imaginary Dance and Modeling school (The Broadway School of Dance & Modeling) using the Joomla! CMS version 1.5. We also showed how Joomla! CMS could easily integrate with the other major social media services such as Flickr, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Eventbrite. The idea was to show people how to utilize the power of those great hosted solutions within their Joomla powered websites without having to do any crazy php software development.

Who were the people at the Vancouver Joomla DocCamp?

In my previous post I promised to write a little more about the people who participated in this weekend’s Joomla DocCamp in Vancouver. A lot of these people are quite active in the Vancouver’s technology community and having the opportunity to work with them side by side is an energizing experience.

Jeannette Duguay – JenTekk Web Solutions

January 19th 2008 Vancouver Joomla! DocCamp

My business Partner and Associate, Jen is the founder of JenTekk Web Solutions and also the co-founder of Tazzu Networking Ltd. a business and technology networking community in Vancouver.

Jentekk Web Solutions

Jeannette is a web designer who has developed several projects in Joomla! CMS such as ClassicBindery.com and North49.com websites. JenTekk Web Solutions was one of the Vancouver Joomla DocCamp sponsors.

Jen was interested in the Joomla Article and Menu manager, and how they are used to achieve a proper information architecture in a Joomla powered website. You can read her blog post here: Joomla DocCamp – Fun to the finish!

Ash Sanieyan & Kim – PeerGlobe Technology

January 19th 2008 Vancouver Joomla! DocCamp

This charming couple are the founders of PeerGlobe Technology solutions and their specialty is developing custom Content Management Systems (CMS), Facebook, Open Social, and Mobile applications. Kim is the creative force behind the Marketing, Communication, and Design solutions in the PeerGlobe team. Ash is a Ruby On Rails (ROR) expert who has recently started using Joomla 1.5 framework for their project. Joomla 1.5 framework follows the Model View Controller (MVC) software architecture which is very similar to the ROR framework.

PeerGlobe Technology

Ash is also very interested to use Adobe AIR and Flex technologies in combination with the ROR and Joomla! frameworks. On January 16th, 2008 Ash hosted an Adobe AIR and Flex workshop session at the same location, The Network Hub, which had a very good turn out. (See the pictures here)

The new PeerGlobe.com website is now powered using the Joomla 1.5 framework. PeerGlobe is an rmd Studio associate and one of the sponsors of the Vancouver Joomla DocCamp event.
